Our aim is to increase local support for nature conservation in and around Chitungulu.
We strive to reach our goal in the following ways:

Nature education

Aim:  to share knowledge on wildlife and environmental issues, local and global, in order to raise conservation awareness, and to foster a better understanding and appreciation of the unique wilderness areas around Chitungulu

Results
  • Annual Birding Course for the higher grades of three primary schools in Chitungulu, including binocular training (since 2013)
  • Preparing primary schoolkids for excursions into Luambe National Park, in cooperation with Luambe Camp (since 2016)
  • Introduction conservation training (2016)
  • Conservation training program for young adults (2019-2023), including nature documentaries (BBC series). On completion of this training, eligible candidates are assisted with sponsorships to become professional field guides,  while other course participants are offered alternative vocational training opportunities.
As from 2023
  •  Construction of Conservation Centre to become a regional knowledge hub for sustainable development and biodiversity conservation (2023-2024)

Tree conservation

Aim:  to raise awareness of the need for tree conservation in the face of climate change and deforestation in and around Chitungulu, to reduce fuel consumption, to increase local support for tree planting projects

Results

  • Planting of over 660 indigenous tree saplings and fruit trees between 2015-2019 in Chitungulu (especially on the school grounds of Chocha and Chilubezi primary schools and in and around the  organic vegetable gardens)
  • Tree nursery set up by the pupils of Chilubezi primary school (2020)
  • Tree nursery and tree planting (2022-2023)
As from 2024
  • Continuation of planting of indigenous tree saplings in and around Chitungulu through the biodegradable foil method which makes use of dew to water the plant
  • Promotion of fuel-economic cooking stoves
